How to Write the Letter b – Introduction

You know and can spot the letter b already, well done! The letters you can see here are printed. Sometimes we write them like this, however, sometimes we write them differently. This text will teach you how to write the letter b with a lead in and a lead out to prepare for joined up writing later.

Today we are going to be practising our handwriting and learning how to form the letter b.

Before we start we need to make sure we are ready to write.

The letter b falls into the group of branched (also known as one-armed) letters along with r, n, h, m, k and p, because they all follow a similar pattern.

We can see we start with our whoosh to the top (lead in) and then come back down making a straight line. Go back up this straight line halfway and then loop around to the bottom. Come back along this bottom line making a short lead out.
